Comparative Policy Frameworks for Promoting Organic Farming and Biodiversity Conservation: Case Studies from Emerging and Developed Economies

Abstract

Organic farming and biodiversity conservation have emerged as pivotal components of sustainable development agendas across both emerging and developed economies. Yet, the efficacy of policy frameworks implemented to promote these goals varies significantly, shaped by distinct socioeconomic conditions and environmental challenges. In emerging economies, policy initiatives often strive to address pressing issues such as food security and rural livelihood enhancement, while in developed economies, programs emphasize ecosystem services, consumer-driven markets, and long-term ecological resilience. This paper presents a comparative analysis of policy measures that support organic agricultural practices and biodiversity preservation, underlining critical success factors such as regulatory structures, market incentives, and institutional capacity. Special emphasis is placed on the multifaceted nature of biodiversity conservation, highlighting its dependence on habitat heterogeneity, species richness, and ecosystem functionality. Through an in-depth discussion of cross-sectoral collaborations, funding mechanisms, and capacity-building efforts, this study identifies synergies and trade-offs inherent in different policy approaches.
